TeaTronik is comprised of founding members Celsey McFadden and Monica Harkin, who bring their disparate influences together to great effect, creating a sound that is at once atmospheric and electronic, but also melodic and organic.
TeaTronik came into being when Celsey responded to Monica’s “guitarist wanted” ad. Originally performing in restaurants around Dublin as an acoustic jazz and folk act, all that changed when they started to write their own original material, with a distinctly electronic edge coming to the fore.
While Celsey has a strong instrumental performance background, having specialised in contemporary and jazz guitar performance while at college, he admits to being obsessed with electronic music production, bringing a glitchy love for found sounds, electroacoustic and detailed rhythms to bear on TeaTronik’s output. This duality of approach, strengthened by Monica’s beguiling vocal, which can move from choral to punk to folk across a single track, creates an atmospheric sound that, unusually for electronica, is full of texture and warmth. From the start TeaTroniK's aim has always been to seamlessly blend the electronic with the organic.
Two and a half years in the making TeaTronik's debut album Teatronica is a captivating and uncompromising album that borrows from classical harmony, folk warmth and sound experimentation. With a clear electronic foundation the album layers organic and found sounds with Monica’s otherworldly vocals to create a haunting and compelling soundscape that is full of longing and promise.
